Location Report

Location Report

In this post I will be analysing all the different areas that I may use within the video. For each of the different locations I will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of filming in the different areas, this will allow me to see if I should use the area when filming my music video.
I visited the locations during the Easter holidays, so that I was able to take pictures and effectively analyse the areas to create my location report and my risk assessment.

Here are the different locations:

Villa Rosa
Villa Rosa is one of the first locations, this is a villa located on the island of Anna Maria in Florida. This area has many different advantages, first the video is filmed in an exotic location, the aesthetics of the area, the sun, sea, sand and blue sky entices the audience to watch the music video. This is because the area is unique and many will view the video as they want to see the location and imagine themselves there.
The house is also a very homely environment, creating an illusion that my characters live in the area, this allows the viewers to connect with the video as everyone has a home and a safe environment they live in, allowing those to relate to the girl within the video.
There is also a lot of vegetation and greenery, the white of the house and the vibrant colour of the plants creates a vibrant and eye-catching image, engaging more viewers to watch.
However the disadvantage of this location is that the area around the house is having construction being completed so there may be days where I will be unable to film as there will be construction in progress, so I will need to ensure that I can get the shot without any building work destroying the shot.

Balcony Area
Balcony area of Villa Rosa, this is a great location that located on the front of the house, it has lovely views and has a swinging chair located on the balcony area, this has many colourful and fun views with the scenery and ocean, the area also has great lighting making the area very aestetically pleasing and enticing for viewers.
However the area of the villa is based in an area of heavy construction due to houses being built,  so I will need to ensure that no construction is being completed at the time as it could ruin the shot of the view. The area could also be hard to film it as the balcony area is very narrow, so could be difficult to film in the area and could be more difficult to bring equipment and a lot of actors on the area.

Pool Area
Pool area of Villa Rosa, this area is very bright as the area is usually in the sun for most of the day, creating a sunny and bright atmosphere, this is visually pleasing and therefore enticing to view, the vegetation is also very vibrant and the area looks aesthetically pleasing.
However if I do choose to film in this location I will need to ensure that the light reflecting off the water of the pool doesn't effect the camera shot and create a poor quality shot.
I will also need to be careful as to not get any visitors of the pool in the shots, as there may be adults and children using the pool, I will need to ensure they do not get in the shot as I am not allowed to film younger children without there parents permission. To avoid this issue I will place signs up in the area saying "Filming in progress" including the time and date of filming the scenes.

Street Front

This area is very picturesque area as you can see from the image above, the road is usually quiet so is a great area to film, without having members of the public disturbing the shot. There are also palm trees that line the street, this brightens the area and creates a very exotic shot, enticing those to watch the video
The disadvantage of using this area is that the area may have some construction workers and construction material in the area, so I will need to be careful when filming as not to get any of this within the shot, as this would destroy the vibrant and tranquil area.
Another disadvantage is that this is public area so I will need to ensure that none of the public gets into the shot, as I will need to get there permission, to avoid problems like this I may need to hire a production runner/junior, this is a person that keeps the area clear, so if a member of the public walks near the shot being seen they just go and talk to the person and keep them of the shot. They keep the area clear and usually quiet but as i have a track being played over the video I don't need to worry about the noise in the background.
Dock Area

Dock area of Villa Rosa is very tranquil this area is very bright and calm, this area would be good to film as it is a unique location and has great scenery, the area is also shaded so there is no worry about the suns rays getting into the shot. The area is also quiet and so there is no trouble worrying about the public getting in the shot.
However the area is very narrow so could be difficult to film the area, as the equipment may not be able to fit on the dock area, as well as this the area is very open and the equipment being used could be easily damaged and knocked into the water. If filming in this area I will need to ensure waterproof covers are used on the equipment.

Sunshine Plaza

This is the Sunshine Plaza shop front, this is the most industrial area I may use to film in, this area is a group of shots containing 2 retail fashion shots and one cafe, this area is very open and will be extreamly easy to film in, as it is also extremely close to where I am staying and so I don't have to transport all the equipment along way. It also has archways where I can film framing shots, these are great shots to allow me to introduce character or film bullying scenes within them.
The disadvantage to this location is that it is a very popular on the island, so it may be very difficult to film without getting the public in the shot, to avoid this issue I could hire a production runner, this person will clear the area that I will be using to film, I may also need to email the owner of the area to see if that it is okay to film within the area.

Anna Maria Island Beaches

Anna Maria Island beaches are very picturesque, quiet and tranquil places, they are very open and a great location to film a variety of different shots, I will most likely use this location as it is a very exotic place and so will entice those to watch the video as they want to see the exotic and fun places on the Island.
The only down side to filming at a beach is that the sand and water could damage the equipment that I will be using, so i will need to ensure that I use protection covers on the equipment. It is also a very open area so can be difficult to film on these beaches as it can get very hot and if a lot of scenes are filmed on the beaches or retakes of scenes are needed, the heat and frustration of the shot may get flustered and this could cause tension on the set. To avoid this issue I will set up a canopy to give those shade and also provide water and snacks so that everyone has an area where they can rest and rejuvenate.

DIPs Ice Cream Shop

DIPs Ice Cream shop is a very fun and bright place, it is very popular area but is a great location to film in as the area is very trendy with all its bright colours and neon lights. The area also juxtaposes the storyline as everyone around the area is enjoying themselves, yet my character will be alone and sad. I also know the owner of the area and so it will be very easy to get permission to film in the area.
The disadvantage to filming in the area is that it is quiet far from where I am based on the island, so it will take me longer to travel to the area and set up all the equipment, so if I do film in the area I will need to arrange more time on the shot to allow me to set up and film.

Rod and Reel Pier

Rod and Reel Pier is a very aesthetically pleasing with amazing viewers, Flora and Forna, by using this location it may entice viewers to watch the video as it is a very exotic location and a unique place. The area is also very close to the location that I will be staying at, this is an advantage to my cast members, staff and myself as we don't have to travel far with all the equipment, resulting in a very quick filming process if we do film within this area. It is also avery large area and is very quiet, we therefore don't have to worry about any of the public strolling into the shot and running it.
The disadvantage to this area is that the sea and sand could effect the camera shot as the sun could reflect off the sea and effect the camera shots and the sand could get all on the lens and therefore create a poor quality shot, to avoid this I will need to ensure that the cameras and equipment we will be using are well protected by covers so that the shots don't get ruined.

Pine Avenue

Pine Avenue is a very adorable location, there are a variety of different shots that sells all kinds of products such as food, clothing, sweets and souvenirs. The advantage of this area is that it is a very colourful and open, there area amazing features to this area that can entice people to watch the video, the area also contradicts the emotions ad feeling of the victim, as the place is happy, colourful and exciting to visit, yet the girl will be depressed, alone and weak. This brings more attention to the girl and therefore the viewers will want to follow the girl and her strip, enticing those to watch.
The disadvantage of the area is that is is very close to a main road, so that cars and other vehicles may get into the shot, running the aesthetics of the shots, if I do choose to film there. I will therefore need to ensure that id i do film on this street, that I will need to film on days where the area is less busy so that the road is quite and therefore easy to film the shots without getting vehicles in the background. By also filming in the area on a quieter day less of the public will be visiting the area and so less will get in the background of the shot. To also avoid this issue even further, I will put up signs to let people know that we area filming in the area, as well as having a production runner to ensure no one walks into the shot.

Other risks are included within the risk assessment.

To concluded, I have not decided all the locations for the different shots I have planned but by analysing the individual areas, it allows me to effectively plan the locations so that they effectively match with the scenes, this post will make it easier for me to create the shot list -that will be poster soon- where each shot is matched with the different locations.

    1. As I have visited the area many times I have found the best shots for each scene, yet if the situation does occur I will analyse the risks, pros and cons of using the areas, like I have done with all the other areas.
